Blacks Brewery & Distillery
Blacks Brewery & Distillery was founded in 2013 by husband-and-wife team Maud and Sam Black. What began as a small start-up with big dreams has grown into one of Ireland’s most exciting success stories.
Based in Kinsale, at the gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way, Blacks proudly became Ireland’s first co-located brewery and distillery—producing both award-winning beers and handcrafted spirits all under one roof.
From the start, Maud and Sam set out to break boundaries and bring something fresh to the Irish drink's scene. What began with craft beer quickly expanded into distilling whiskey, gin, and rum, backed by a passion for quality and a love for local tradition.
History of Ringrone Castle
Overlooking the River Bandon south of Kinsale, this 13th-century castle was built on land granted to Milo de Cogan by Henry II.
In 1600, the castle was held by Spanish forces but was captured by the English during the Siege of Kinsale after a brutal attack by cannons.
What remains of Ringrone Castle today is just a stone's throw away from our brewery and distillery and has inspired us to produce the first-ever whiskey produced from start to finish in Kinsale.

This year marks a proud new chapter with the launch of Ringrone Castle Irish Whiskey—crafted at Blacks distillery and named after the historic Ringrone Castle, which overlooks our home in Kinsale. It’s a whiskey that brings together local ingredients, skilled hands, and the spirit of adventure that defines everything Blacks of Kinsale do.
Every bottle of Ringrone starts with 100% Irish barley, sourced just a few kilometres away in the Ringrone region. By keeping things small and local, we stay true to our roots—focusing on craft, quality, and character in every drop.
Ringrone is a true taste of Ireland: smooth, balanced, and full of soul. It’s made for slow sipping, good conversation, and moments worth remembering.
All three new whiskeys—Ringrone Single Malt, Ringrone Small Batch, and Ringrone 5 Year Single Malt—combine local ingredients, skilled craftsmanship, and the adventurous spirit that defines everything Blacks do.
Ringrone Small Batch is a premium blend of malt and grain whiskeys, finished in ex bourbon barrels to bring out rich, rounded flavour. Crafted in small quantities, this whiskey reflects Blacks founder’s belief that quality always comes before scale.
Ringrone Castle 5 Year Single Malt is made with 100% malted barley grown at Ringrone Castle. It's aged in bourbon barrels for 5 years and bottled at 43% ABV, which brings out all its natural flavor. A bold but balanced whiskey, smooth, rich, and full of character.
Ringrone Single Malt Irish Whiskey stands as a bold expression of tradition and craft, distilled to perfection and bottled at 43% ABV. Aged exclusively in bourbon barrels, it delivers a rich and nuanced drinking experience.
